KALEIDOSCOPE
As I was walking down the road one evening
I felt the crunch of something crushing beneath my shoes.
I look down and see shards of broken glass, tiny, colourful pieces.
Fascinated, I pick one up and it seemed to me it was a piece of a broken bangle, red and translucent, gleaming in the light of the setting sun.
A flash of memory sped across my mind,
Like a deer darting through the forest, turning back once to face its fears.
My mind too turned back once, to a distant memory where I was a little girl at a fair,
with a kaleidoscope in my hands.
As I lifted it to my eye, a fascinating world unfolded before me.
Every turn created a new world of colour, no two patterns the same.
Yes, the broken pieces reminded me of a kaleidoscope, where each twist and turn magically created wonders that gladdened my heart.
Isn't life the same? A kaleidoscope?
Where each turn represents happiness, sadness, laughter, tears, feelings of heaviness and sometimes despair.
A broken heart, an amazing adventure, the first steps taken by our children, our first crush, the one serious love of our life.
Another turn and it evokes memories of growing up, of facing the world as it is.
Yet another turn brings to the surface images of heartbreak and one more turn, and there it is... The happiest moments of our lives, connecting each memory with a person who once mattered to us.
Life too is a series of little pieces, strewn about here and there. Just as no pattern in the kaleidoscope is the same, so also no two days are. And all these pieces combine to create this wondrous experience called Life. Let us make the most of this vibrant life we have been blessed with.
When we feel like giving up, let us look through the kaleidoscope and realise that no one moment is the same, not one adventure, not one pattern remains the same.
Life is so transient, why not make every moment count. Can we not bring together all the pieces of our life and merge them into colorful memories. We are so busy in our lives, that we forget how to live. That's when we need to pick up this magical kaleidoscope and visit our past once more. Our present will have more clarity then.
Most importantly, we need to learn how to live in the present moment, to savour the colours and vivacity of life and to blend all the pieces and patterns into one wholesome image
Remember, life is a kaleidoscope.
